Postharvest mechanization
The activities conducted by multidisciplinary research teams within the framework of fonio projects have resulted in :
- Inventory of fonio postharvest practices in the main producing countries
- Catalogue of varieties
- Study of the biochemical and technological characteristics of fonio
- Study of fonio consumption and inventory of recipes
But mainly on postharvest mechanization:
- Threshing: modification and adaptation of IRRI-type rice thresher
- Cleaning: design of rotating sieves and winnowing channel

Hulling/whitening: design and local manufacture of a "GMBF" fonio huller
(GMBF means : Guinea, Mali, Burkina, France)
